General Summary of Duties

The primary role of the patient navigator is to improve patient preparedness for treatment by providing education and psychosocial support.  The navigator assists the patient, family, and physician in procuring financial, medical and supportive resources.  This position reports directly to the Directory of Oncology Services.

 

Duties include but not limited to:
  • Maintaining an orderly, efficient, and timely flow of patients.
  • Screening patients for appropriate information.
  • Responding to and referring incoming telephone calls.
  • Instructing patients and family regarding medications and treatment instructions.
  • Maintaining and reviewing patients' records and other pertinent information.
  • Maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • Maintaining current knowledge to assure a safe working environment and demonstrating practical application of all policies and procedures relative to safety and infection control.
  • Projecting a positive image of the facility in all interactions and supporting effective team functioning.
  • Practice and adhere to the "Code of Conduct" philosophy and "Mission and Value Statement".
